Trend Watch: Alpine Inspired
I have a strong affinity for all things alpine / Nordic inspired. When someone is wearing an ugly Christmas sweater with a classic Fair Isle print, I do not see ugly: I see kitschy charm. Apparently my adoration is catching on; as of late, I’ve spotted plenty of alpine pieces to add to a few wish lists – of my own and I hope now yours.

Nordic Throw Blanket – $29.99 @ Canadian Tire: Admittedly this print works best for the holidays – just imagine this snuggly, sherpa-lined throw blanket draped around you on Christmas morning as you open your cache of presents!
Alpine Earmuffs – $11.50 @ Joe Browns: Alpine can be colourful, as demonstrated by Joe Brown’s line-up of dresses, leggings and winter accessories all bedecked in a rainbow-hued take on the trend. As a heads up, shipping is a flat rate that is more than the earmuffs I’ve selected here – but stock up on whatever you want to make it worth it.
Coach Tour Dress in ‘Stitch’ @ ModCloth: Oh ModCloth, you torture me. For a few weeks the store was promoting an entire line-up of Swiss Miss pieces with unifying, quirky touches like embroidery, bold yet muted colours, and alpine prints. This rustic, classic, universally flattering dress caught my eye as an inspired take on the overall trend.
‘Red Knit’ Gift Set – $90 @ Swatch: Only 15,000 lucky lasses (or lads) will be donning this playful watch once the holidays wrap up. With a charming print of snowmen, pine trees, rocking horses and snowflakes, it’s easily reminiscent of a classic fair isle print but in a much smaller, festive dose. Bonus! It comes packaged up all nice and cozy with a matching hot water bottle for those chilly winter nights.
VANS Nordic Chukka 79 – $80 @ OTH: Yes there’s even something for the gents. These alpine sneaks actually come in two different finishes (the other is tan with a forest green print) and have a unique, blocky appearance to them that calls to mind Scandinavian architecture. Ladies, if you want to order a pair for yourself, a size 6.5 mens = a size 8 women’s (and goes up from there).
