Right Black At Ya

Orphan Black Season 1What It Is: If you’ve never heard of this fabulous BBC America series, prepare to enter a time warp where you want to do nothing but watch it. Released in the Spring of 2013, this Canadian-filmed series stars Tatiana Maslaney (a Saskatchewan native) as an orphaned grifter named Sarah Manning that has a chance encounter with someone that looks just like her (and indeed, is played by her) that completely turns her life upside down as she unveils a clone conspiracy. Over ten action-packed episodes, Maslaney plays six different characters to dazzling effect; mastering mannerisms, accents and personality quirks to an astounding level. Be sure to catch up before the hype gets to a boiling point this spring with the arrival of the second season.

Who It’s For: Anyone that loves a good sci-fi thriller show (think: Lost, Dr. Who, Firefly, etc. – but slightly more grounded in reality). Anyone that wants to stay on top of the hype (Tatiana Maslaney scored the Critics Choice Award last season and is due for more accolades). Anyone that loves to binge watch TV programs (just try and pace yourself – there’s only 10 here!)

What It Costs: $39.99 for a two-disc Blu-Ray set and $26.99 on DVD.

Where It’s At: HMV

Bonus entry into this month’s big May Lindstrom giveaway! Tell me in the comments below: have you heard of or watched this show? What’d ya think? Have I piqued your interest into giving it a shot?

I don’t particularly like sci-fi, but love Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black! She is an amazingly versatile performer, and a proud ( and humble ) Canadian. She was nominated for a Golden a Globe for Orphan Black. Can’t wait for new episodes in the spring!
