Raise A Reader

Raise a ReaderWhat It Is: In all of my summer ‘Beach Reads’ series I haven’t touched too much on books for little ones. This summer, kick your kid off the computer and, if they won’t go outside and play, give ’em a book to wile away the hours with. This stunning box set features eight beloved classic children’s books, rendered in a limited edition print per book that reflects its subject matter. From the escapism of The Secret Garden to the adventures of Peter Pan to mishaps of Tom Sawyer, these eight stories are wonderful to introduce your child to the joy of reading – or to share alongside in it with them.

Who It’s For: Really, any young one from ages five and up. If they can’t read it themselves, there’s no reason why you can’t read it to them. Also, I’m 99.9% sure I know a few adults that would love to get their hands on this set.

What It Costs: $140 + $20 shipping (duties may be assessed at landing).

Where It’s At: Sadly I couldn’t track this box set down in Canada – it came out a couple of years ago and seems to be so popular it sold out everywhere. However, I did find it on the Anthropologie website with the relatively reasonable prices listed above (it works out to about $20 a book, not bad when you consider this is heirloom-quality stuff!)

Speaking of books, I’m giving you another chance to earn a bonus entry into my Crazy Rich Asians giveaway. Just tell me in the comments below – would you buy this cool book box set? For whom?

Chapters sells it for $50 and is on their website this morning. I have also seen it in the stores before for the same price. It is a beautiful set and I would think any preteen would love it.

Just a quick note to let you know that this set is available in Canada! Yay! This set is absolutely beautiful! And it’s available at Chapters – Indigo stores and online. Here’s the link to the online set currently out of stock but we do have it at our location so check you local stores for availability.

My granddaughter is an avid reader and would love this collection – thanks Margaret for the tip on a more reasonable price at Chapters.

I would buy it — but not for the price you mentioned. These books are often available at thrift stores individually for fabulous prices. A great book is great even if it isn’t from a boxed set.

I would absolutely buy this for my niece. It would make such a great baby shower gift too. Never too early for books in my opinion!

  6. Truth to be told, I was thinking about buying this set for myself – I’m 21! These stories bring back so many memories. I don’t have any other hard copies of them and this gift set is so complete… and pretty… I could always hand it down to my future daughters or nieces 😉
