Top 10 Holiday Gifts Under $10

While I am literally scouring hundreds of gift ideas each and every holiday season, there is the possibility that this gig could one day get stale. That’s why each year I try to mix things up – bringing you new brands (and there’s a lot of that this year), new post types, alongside some perennial favourites like my book gift guides. You likely already know that I write a ’10 for $10′ post each month, so I thought to myself – why not do that this year? Why not create some monetary value-focused gift guides? And that’s just what I’ve done. Over the course of the holiday season you’ll see a series of blog posts tailored to different gift values, kicking off of course, with some of my favourite finds for under $10. Where do these fit in? They could be hostess gifts, Secret Santa picks with strict spending limits, stocking stuffers, or presents for your extended friends and family when you’re on a tight budget. Just because the budget is limited, doesn’t mean the potential is. Read on to find out what I mean!

Wondermade MarshmallowsWondermade Marshmallows – $7.95 per box
Gourmet marshmallows that taste like ‘sweet magic air’ – consider me in. This marvelous brand specializes in all sorts of sweet and unique flavours of the fluffy stuff, including seasonal specials like Sugar Cookie and Peppermint. Unlike your store-bought, what is that taste? marshmallows, these sweet cubes are made with natural ingredients, for a sweet surprise you can feel good about eating. With each adorable box containing 16 bite-sized marshmallows, it’s a most excellent pick to put a smile on your nieces and nephews’ faces, or perhaps your friends if bringing along as a hostess gift. As a heads up, Wondermade does ship to Canada but is pricey off the hop. If you order more though, the shipping cost barely goes up, so stock up to make it worth your while.

Burt's Bees Endless Shine TrioBurt’s Bees Endless Shine Trio – $9.99 @ Drugstores & Mass Market Retailers Nationwide
I love me some Burt’s Bees. What other brand is chockful of nothing but natural ingredients, is widely available nationwide, and has mind-blowingly amazing prices? I can’t name another one and I’ll bet neither can you. This year in fact, all of Burt’s Bees holiday gift ideas are under $25, making them a wallet-friendly pick for everyone on your list. If you’re shopping for a gal pal, sibling, cousin or niece, consider this cute, ready-to-gift trio of sheer, soothing lip shines. The universally flattering shades of ‘Blush’, ‘Flutter’ and ‘Pucker’ give your lips a mistletoe-ready kiss of colour, while nourishing apricot wax and sunflower seed oil keep your pout from drying out.

Suitcase StickersSuitcase Stickers – $7.50 each @ The Cheeky
I’ve heard of people tying ribbons or a distinctive luggage tag to their bags so it’s easier to spot when coming onto the baggage carousel…but these ridiculous suitcase stickers take it to another level. Designed to stick onto just about any bag you’ve got, each of these fun stickers depicts the type of thing that’s likely to get you called out for questioning, at least at first glance. From bags of cocaine to a trapped stewardess to exotic snakes to a pile o’ cash, it’s the perfect stocking stuffer for that mischievous traveler on your list.

SoberdoughSoberdough Bread Mixes – $7.95+ Each
Have you ever had beer bread? I’m not a big beer drinker, but something about beer bread brings out the best notes, lending the finished product a rich, sweet flavour. Soberdough is a unique artisan beer bread mix company, where really, the only ingredient you need to add is beer (they even give you ideas for which beer to use based on your skill level in the kitchen here) with a few exceptions such as adding cheese when making their Green Chile Cheddar blend. Made from all natural ingredients, most of the mixes are soy, dairy, nut, and oil-free, making them an ideal choice even for picky eaters like myself. And with flavours to appeal to both him and her – Buffalovin’ Wing or the seasonal Cranberry Orange anyone? – it’s a fab hostess gift, stocking stuffer, or pick for your baking challenged-bro. You can even opt for a ‘Pick 6’ pack and stock up on these babies to hand out at every gifty occasion you’ve got this season. To find out where Soberdough is available in Canada, click here!

Bromley Barber Shop Vanilla Scented Shaving Cream CandleBromley Barber Shop & Co Vanilla Shaving Cream Scented Candle – $9.99 @ HomeSense
I know most guys aren’t really into scented candles – including the ones their female companions light up – but this candle might be brilliant enough to satisfy both him and her. This dreamy candle comes in a sleek glass container with gorgeous retro styling – making it an ace choice for any hipsters out there that are into $8 slow dripped lattes and straight edge shaves at their local barbershop. The smell here is the selling point – it’s got that rich, musky, creamy scent you’d associate with a barbershop, coupled with a hint of sweet vanilla, making it perfectly seasonally appropriate.

Sharetapes
Sharetapes – $6.99 for a 5-Pack
Remember the good ol’ days of mix tapes? Sitting by the radio until you heard your fave song and hitting ‘record’? We’ve come a long way from then, with many of us actually taking a spot at the programmer’s desk to create our own unique stations through the likes of Spotify or YouTube. Sharetapes aims to bring back the magic of sharing your music in a simple way. All you do is order some Sharetapes. Once they’re in your hands, set up your playlist and hit ‘record’ on the Sharetapes site. Presto, it’s linked to your physical tape. Gift it to a friend, and they’ll be able to tap it on their phone or tablet (or visit the Sharetapes website) to listen to your custom-crafted list. It’s an insanely affordable gift idea with a personal touch. Heck you could even use it to make a festive holiday mix for someone.

Geek SoapGeek Soap – From $4
Because even nerds need to get clean. No seriously, back away from the computer / TV / whatever it is you’ve been poring over, and step into the shower with one of these uber cool, handmade, vegan-friendly soaps. Available in dozens of styles (including custom orders), this brand is the brainchild of one Lesley Karpiuk, who manages every element of production – from crafting the one-of-a-kind molds to making the soap to packaging and shipping it out (which explains why some products are quite often on back order!) From superheros to video games to TV shows to general nerd culture, these kitschy soaps are a great stocking stuffer for any super fan. As fair warning, shipping starts at about $11 on one bar of soap. I did some playing around though, and the more I added, the more reasonable the shipping costs became – three bars of soap for example, and the shipping only went up by about $2 total. Order lots to make it worth your while.

Toffee Fudge Hot Chocolate Mix Shoppers Drug Mart

Toffee Fudge Hot Chocolate Mix – $9.99 @ Shoppers Drug Mart
This quite literally sweet gift idea make look simple, but it’s actually packed with quite a bit of awesome. For one thing, it’s not just hot chocolate – apart from the creamy dreamy mix included, you also get toffee bits and marshmallows to make the ultimate indulgent winter treat. For another, this isn’t a single serving. In fact, it’ll either satiate six lucky sippers, or one greedy cocoa lover six times over. And finally, it comes packaged in its very own mason jar with a handle – a must-have when handling hot bevvies. Which admittedly, also points to the idea that this is very much meant to be a gift for one. And since hot chocolate is the unofficial beverage of the winter season, this works perfectly as a gift for your niece or nephew after a day in the snow, or perhaps for a close coworker that wants to get cozy in your perpetually over-chilled office.

Lush First Snow Dusting PowderFirst Snow Sparkling Dusting Powder – $7.95 @ Lush
My favourite part of the holiday is all the glitter and sparkles. I’m not kidding – last year I actually had ‘Sparkle Month’ where every day during December I wore a different sparkly item from my wardrobe. Anyway, apparently someone at Lush hears my cry, because they’ve released a new subtley shimmery powder to give my skin that magical winter glow. Simply sprinkle some on your cheeks, decolletage or even your hair for a dusting of holiday spirit (and sparkle). And with the same great scent as the brand’s ‘Celebrate’ lotion, you know it’s going to be a good time!

Credit Card LightbulbCredit Card Lightbulb – $3.99 – $5.99 @ ThinkGeek
This is one ‘bright’ gift giving idea. In fact, it actually works for just about everyone on your list, because it’s both safe and savvy. Roughly the size and shape of a credit card, this thin piece of plastic slips easily into your wallet, purse or glove compartment. When you’re in need of a little light in your life, simply snap the bulb forward and presto, you’ve got a bright spark to help you see why your engine isn’t working or to find your keys buried at the bottom of your bag. At this price, it makes for a fab stocking stuffer for everyone in your household.

10 for $10 Prize PackNow I’ve got some super groovy news. I’m actually giving away a fun little prize package inspired by three items in this post, and surprise – it’s worth a lot more than $30! In fact, my 10 for $10 prize package is worth over $140 and includes:

– A $100 prize package of Burt’s Bees items
– 2 Soberdough mixes of your choice
– A $25 Shoppers Drug Mart gift card
