Ultimate Library

Kindle UnlimitedWhat It Is: Give ’em the gift that keeps on giving: access to 800,000 books! Okay, now pick that jaw up off the floor. Kindle Unlimited is an online book subscription service. Similar to Netflix’s DVD rental service, for $9.99 / month, you can download an unlimited and HUGE range of titles. The awesome thing is, you don’t even need a Kindle to enjoy it. Read your selected books on your existing devices – including your smartphone, tablet, or other ereader (provided you can download apps onto it).

It’s a great way to save on buying the latest titles off the shelves, plus it allows you to dodge the dreaded wait lists at your local library. And getting a book right as you hear about it is oh so easy, since you’re almost always near one of your existing devices.

Who It’s For: Your book-loving spouse, so they stop filling up your bookshelves. Your tween or teen, to encourage them to read more. Your family member that lives in a remote area, for easy access to hot books.

What It Costs: Kindle Unlimited costs $9.99 / month

Where It’s At: You can sign up for a 30-day free trial at Amazon.ca

BONUS entry into last week’s In a Dark, Dark Wood giveaway. Tell me in the comments below whether you’d sign up for a Kindle Unlimited subscription (or gift it to someone else!)

If I do, I would gift it to someone. I still love holding the books in my hand.

Sadly I don’t read books fast enough to get through too many in one month. Probably still cheaper to just buy them 1 by 1. I have a friend who reads tons though and they might like that.

    no I wouldn’t

I love books. I like holding them. I am not fond of reading books on a screen. I do have a family member who would love this. It sounds like a great gift.

  9. Yes, I would, seems like a good idea for an avid reader, although if it was $5./month, I definitely would.

I have a Kindle but I haven’t signed up for Unlimited yet. I think it is a great idea though especially for people who aren’t close to a library.

  16. Anne Derkat says:

It’s a great idea but not one that I would personally take advantage of.

This would make a great Christmas gift for my brother, who like the rest of my family loves to read, thanks

  18. Debra says:

I’m not sure if I would sign up for a subscription – I do love my library and use my Kobo whenever travelling.
