Packing It In
Today’s gift guide is all about gift ideas for travellers. With summer holidays on the horizon, nay, beginning as of Canada Day, I thought it was high time I highlight a few great gift picks for summer vacations.
Bright Renew Capsule Sleep Mask – $36 @ Sephora
Why is this such an ingenious travel gift? For one thing, when your skin is parched after a day at the beach or out sightseeing, moisturizing it is essential. For another, space is at a premium when you’re traveling, especially when it comes to those pesky ‘liquids, creams and gels’ you’re limited by when flying. These little pods come individually packaged so you can slip one into your airline bag with no problem. The idea is to slather it on overnight and then rinse it off in the morning for refreshed, glowing skin. I’ve tried them out and I definitely wake up looking brighter and more perky, making them a great Sunday/Monday pick. While each capsule is meant to be single use, there’s quite a bit of product in there, so you could save some and use it one or two more times on your trip too!
No Jet Lag Pills – ~$15 for 32 Tablets (click for locations)
If you’re zipping around the planet then you’ve no doubt experienced jet lag – that disorienting, sluggish feeling of having hopped a time zone or ten! This handy travel companion is a homeopathic remedy for jet lag that’s been trusted for over 20 years and tested on flight attendants for its effectiveness. Designed not to interfere with any other medications, these chewable tablets will get you through about 50 hours of flight time.
Sony DSC-RX100 20.2 MP Exmor CMOS Sensor Digital Camera – $548 @ Amazon.ca
Every amazing vacation deserves to be captured in crystal clear quality. While it’s easy and tempting to use your phone everywhere you go, sometimes it’s nice to disconnect from your phone (and keep it safe) and only bring a camera with you. If you’re on the hunt for a travel-friendly one, this slim little beauty is recognized as one of the top cameras for travelers. It’s a classic point and shoot camera that offers a fast-speed Carl Zeiss lens and a large 20.1 megapixel sensor, allowing you to take crisp images with a pocket-friendly camera.
The Getaway Passport Holder – $24 USD @ ban.do
Plan your great escape with a pretty pastel passport holder in hand – this stunning faux leather case is a cute pick for the teenager or student in your life that’s heading abroad for the summer. The inside is equally cute, with hot pink and metallic gold leatherette interior, plus three slots to stash cards if you want to pack really light. Also available in a fun floral print!
Calgon Hawaiian Ginger Collection – From $6.97 @ Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, Lawtons, Sobey’s Atlantic, Loblaws, and Rexall
The best way to get in the vacation mood is to add a little aromatherapy to the mix. Calgon is infamous for this transporting scents, and you can’t get much more tropical than Hawaiian Ginger, a spicy, sweet blend of sunshine, fruit and hibiscus flowers. Lather yourself in it from top to toe for all-day whiffs of this heavenly aroma – the sugar scrub is a great pick if you’re following up with some sunless tanner, while the moisturizing cream is great to smooth out those rough spots and the body mist keeps the scent fresh and at the forefront.
Patagonia Headway MLC 45L Bag – $229 @ Patagonia + Luggage Stores
Looking for a multi-tasking bag that’ll do it all? This hearty bag can be carried not one, not two, but three different ways for your convenience. The most basic way is as a shoulder bag, perfect for carrying on to the plane or toting around the airport. But if you’re crammed onto a train or navigating a narrow space, you can also use the ‘briefcase style’ handles to take it with you. Finally, give those weary arms a rest – you can even sling this baby onto your back like a backpack to evenly distribute the weight and keep your hands free. Available in four colour combinations, this water-resistant bag comes with plenty of interior space and pockets to keep your essentials separate. Great for short-haul trips or as the perfect carry-on turned travel bag when you arrive at your destination!
Ivy Convertible Maxi Dress – From $78 @ Henkaa
When space is at a premium, go for a multi-tasking item like this convertible dress. It can be worn 13 different ways with just a few quick adjustments, and comes in a range of colours from classic black to pastel pink to rich jewel tones. The dress also comes with a contrasting waistband if you want to liven things up, plus Henkaa has a range of other accessories like a chiffon overlay or a bandeau top that can take your dress even further. I picked the Ivy because I felt like it could easily go from a formal event to a casual dinner, plus it comes in two lengths, but there are plenty of styles to choose from on the Henkaa website!
