Trend Watch: Jump Right Pin
The jumper dress or pinafore dress has been making a comeback as of late. Previously resurrected in the 90s, this 70s-esque style has roots in schoolgirl style but has been continually updated to appeal to the working woman (70s), trendsetting high schooler (90s), and modern edgy fashionista (now) alike. I’ve noticed the style cropping up more than usual lately, so I thought I’d highlight a few ways you can wear a jumper dress or skirt.
From L to R, Top to Bottom
Overall Winner Jumper in Cardinal Plaid – $69.99 @ ModCloth: The plaid on this jumper skirt makes it feel very fall and more than a little schoolgirl, but the the flattering high waist is a gal’s best friend. You can also nab it in basic black.
Laura Denim Pinafore Dress – $70 @ Boohoo: Overalls have made a comeback this past year – and so have their skirt-y sibling, the jumper dress. Denim gives this otherwise girly style a little bit of tomboy edge. Wear it with canvas kicks and a retro tee.
ASOS Pinafore Dress – $25 @ ASOS: Dip your toe in the trend without blowing the bank. This ASOS pick comes in a few different hues from neutral grey to super soft, like this angelic pink option.
Topshop Corduroy Velvet Pinafore Dress – $76: It’s a double dose of retro: overall straps and corduroy were last uber trendy circa 1994. But something about the slim cut and hardware on this dress makes it feel oh so now. It looks great with a simple turtleneck underneath!
Boohoo Pleated Pinafore Dress – $39 @ ASOS: The mauve colour and pleated skirt of this option really make it stand out. The panel up top is cut with a slim design, ultimately making your upper half look trimmer too.
Modern Jumper Dress – $79 @ Simons: I love jumpers that allow you to really show off what you’re wearing underneath. This navy blue style has a plunging front and cool back detail that let you show it all off.
BONUS ENTRY into my Lipstick Queen giveaway – tell me in the comments below, would you rock a jumper? Which of these strikes your fancy?
Being in my 50s I would say the plaid one
In days gone by I would have rocked a jumper. Love the look of the Modern Jumper Dress, a very classic cut.
I love the Modern Jumper Dress but my jumper days are long gone.
I wouldn’t wear a jumper
I love the grey combo! It would look even better on my daughter.
No thanks to this trend
I’m way past the jumper
I would totally wear the ASOS pinafore in pink and the Topshelf corduroy.
I’m too old for a jumper. Maybe my daughter could pull it off. I am a subscriber.
Jumpers were very popular in my youth and I loved them and wore them a lot. I like the black one.
I love jumpers! The denim one from Boohoo would pair well with almost anything!
No unfortunately I’m not a fan of them
I like the cordoroy and velvet jumper, and the last one from Simon’s reminds me of a school uniform – We used to wear a gymslip (that’s what jumpers are called in Europe) & a blouse inside! – Not quite as risque as this though…
BONUS Green Queens ENTRY: I would rock a jumper and this one strikes my fancy, the Modern Jumper Dress – $79 @ Simons. Thanks
I have always loved jumpers — so comfortable! I would choose the Top Shop corduroy and velvet jumper.
I really like the Topshop Corduroy Velvet Pinafore Dress – But nowadays I only wear slacks.
