As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been working super hard to track down some amazing gift ideas sourced right here in Canada this season. One of the most covetable I could find? Tofino Towel Co., the star of today’s post and the originator of the West Coast round towel.

Designed in B.C., Tofino Towel Co.’s M.O. stemmed from that annoying practice of having to shake off your beach towel every hour or so as you reposition it to get the best angle toward the sun. They envisioned a round towel that would be beautifully designed and totally functional – after all, a slightly oversized round towel means you can stretch out in any direction to suit the sun’s movements. Today, the brand has built up quite a cult following for their beautiful designs (that are regularly being added to) and the way the product has sort of take on a life of its own.

Yes, it’s a towel. It’s primarily a beach towel, in fact. But you could use it in so many other ways, it’s ridiculous. While that round shape is ideal for scooting around on the sand, it also has the effect of essentially wrapping yourself in a hug whenever you tuck it around you. The uber plush towel fabric it’s made out of absorbs water like crazy, so I will caution it takes a bit of time to dry out / may not work as a daily shower towel, but when it’s freshly used, it will seriously dry you off in an instant and give you some internal warm and fuzzies.

So yes, those are both towel examples of how Tofino Towel Co. towels are currently loved – but there are actually other ways it can be used too. For example, you could pack it in your trunk and break it out for a blanket when you’re watching a fall football game, eating a picnic in the park, or simply sitting by the campfire.

Not only that, but Tofino Towel Co. has posted some cool photos of other design applications around the home. The towels are seriously so thick and striking, they could be applied as a throw blanket, rug, or naturally, a bath mat. Some fans have even used them as a yoga mat or meditation platform.

They’ve currently got 7 designs with a loose Navajo / southwestern / Mandala vibe, including a cool limited edition version by fashion brand Jackson Rowe. Each towel retails for $99, which is actually on point with other luxury towel brands you’d buy full-size bath sheets from at a department store…but those towels are merely towels my friend. Tofino Towel Co.’s round towels are, as I’ve shown here, so much more. And that price point makes them a great Canadian gift idea under $100 for everyone from your yoga-loving sister to your would-be designer mom to your camping-bound brother.
