Find of the Month: Breville
The holidays are an awesome time to ‘upgrade’ things you’ve already got. When I first moved out, I bought the most bargain appliances on the market, but over the years I have regularly upgraded them to ones that’ll last way longer and perform way, way better. One of my go-to brands, as I’ve detailed on this blog, is Breville. Not only do their products work extremely well, they’re loaded with amazing little features that distinguish them in a crowded marketplace. For December’s Find of the Month, I thought it’d be neat to showcase a few of Breville’s home appliances that should top your wish list – and what makes them oh so special.
The Grind Control – $399.99
Coffee purists will tell you two things makes for a perfect cup: high quality beans and the right grind size. Breville’s The Grind Control coffeemaker has a built-in coffee grinder that lets you customize the grind amount based on the roast (darker roasts work best with a coarse grind to avoid bitter coffee, whereas lighter roasts or espresso beans need a finer grind). Not only that, it delivers water at the perfect temperature (another big no-no in the coffee making world). Coming equipped with its own stainless steel carafe, you can brew an entire pot for the family to enjoy on Christmas morning, or just brew a single cup and throw your favourite travel mug underneath. Want to wake up the smell of fresh java in the a.m.? It also has a programmable feature so your perfect blend is ready when you are.
The Control Grip – $119.99
This handy little device is a must-have if you make winter soups or homemade sauces! If you’ve never owned a hand or stick mixer, they’re amazing little devices that puree your ingredients in a matter of minutes – if they’re designed properly. Most stick mixers (including my own) have too much suction and end up getting sucked to the bottom of the pot, leaving behind chunks that are semi-undectable otherwise. Not so with The Control Grip. This ergonomically designed hand mixer has a reduced suction blade for better control and performance. Plus it comes with a whisk attachment and a jug (awesome if you’re only wanting to puree part of your dish, like with many soups) for tons of versatility. A great, affordable gift that’ll be used for years to come!
The Smart Oven Pro – $369.99
The holidays can be a hectic time in the kitchen, with every burner in use and your oven pulling off back-to-back sessions. A compact oven is a great solution to keep things moving during the Christmas dinner rush and beyond – you can pull it out for meals for one when heating up the entire oven seems indulgent (and time-consuming). This little convection oven from Breville has won scads of awards, and offers a slow cook function similar to your favourite crock pot – heat things for 4-10 hours and the ‘Keep Warm’ function will automatically stabilize temperatures until you’re ready to chow down. It’s also a smart device. Different foods need different cooking methods – the oven will suggest when you should be using its convection features, and makes adjustments based on your ingredients. The result is a delectable meal that’s ready in no time.
The Hot Choc & Froth – $149.99
I couldn’t write a holiday gift guide for Breville and leave out what is perhaps their most Christmas-y gift of them all: this cool little frother for hot chocolate and milk. Use it to make cafe-quality at-home beverages, like sweet lattes, infused hot chocolates, gourmet cappuccinos, and other warm winter favourites. With no whisking or stirring by hand needed, the magnetic whisk moves at variable speeds to suit the texture of your ideal drink. Bonus points for a built-in measuring spoon that makes it a snap to pull perfectly proportioned drinks together. Skip the high-priced coffee and gift cards – Breville’s Hot Choc & Froth will pay itself off in no time!
The Scraper Mixer Pro – $399.99
Holiday baking has never been easier – if you’re the lucky owner of The Scraper Mixer Pro from Breville. This sturdy stand mixer’s standout feature is the flexible beater edge, which keeps batter from building up in the gap between the beater and the bowl. With a handy pouring shield to keep ingredients from spurting out and a smart motor that detects heavy loads and adjusts the beating power accordingly, this easy-to-use mixer is every baker’s dream come true. The sleek stainless steel finish will look chic in any kitchen, and the digital controls make it supremely easy to use.
The Quick Clean – $219.99
Breville actually has an impressive lineup of sandwich makers and grills, but this one caught my eye for its versatility. The top plate can be adjusted to six different heights depending on what you’re cooking. Sturdier foods like burritos or paninis go great with a lowered grill plate, while you can lift it up when cooking more delicate dishes like fish or vegetables. Great for the grill master that’s staring woefully at the BBQ during the winter months.
