What It Is: With so many people aiming to live a healthier lifestyle as their New Year’s Resolution, why not give them a jump start by hooking them up with a dinner kit subscription service? HelloFresh is the perfect solution for people who are super busy or a little afraid of the kitchen, but still want to cook healthy, delicious meals for their family. Each HelloFresh box comes equipped with recipe cards and literally everything you need (save for super basic staples like salt or water) to make a meal from scratch, including locally sourced produce and protein, and spices and sauces in just the right amounts to reduce food waste. Available in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, New Brunswick, PEI, and Nova Scotia, what I’m perhaps most impressed by is how accessible this gift idea is to so much of Canada.

What’s great is each week you can actually choose which recipes show up at your door. With chef-created recipes like Sticky Cranberry Pork, Zucchini Noodle Lasagna, and Paneer and Spinach Curry, HelloFresh gives you an opportunity to try out different cuisines, interesting ingredients, and meatless meals they might not otherwise experiment with. Choose from a two-person or four-person plan to suit your household’s size and kick back and wait till your yummy, ready-to-cook meal kit arrives at your door.

Who It’s For: Your sibling that’s trying to lose some weight in the new year. Your parents, who love trying new cuisines. Your busy spouse who handles the cooking, to give them a head start on dinner.

What It Costs: HelloFresh offers their plans for either two or four people, with three meals delivered per week (you can pause or skip weeks whenever). For two people you’re looking at $53 per week, and for four you’re looking at $93. Plus when you sign up, you receive three free ‘plates’ (so either close to a full family meal or 1.5 couple meals) as a bonus discount. Hurrah!

Where It’s At: HelloFresh gift cards can be bought online and served up to your loved ones on Christmas Eve!
