Find of the Month: The Night Sky

When he proposed. When your little one arrived. When you were given the all-clear healthwise. When you retired. When you graduated. Life is full of magical milestones that change things – usually for the better! As the days get shorter (and cooler), yo may find yourself gazing at the crisp, clear fall nights more and more – and that’s exactly what inspired me to select September’s Find of the Month.

The Night Sky Hanging

The Night Sky is a unique gift idea that lets you create custom star maps of significant occasions in your life – like the ones I mentioned above.

The Night Sky Shelf

Using a simple online interface, you simply enter a geographic location (you can even get precise down to the exact longitude and latitude if you so desire) and a date, and they’ll format what the night sky looked like then and there.

The Night Sky Blue

You can then customize the print even more, by changing what colour your map is printed on – black, midnight blue, grey-blue, and aqua – including whether it’s white lines on a solid colour background or your little slice of the sky on a white background (see the first photo in this post – which can also make for some cool triptych possibilities).

The Night Sky Black

How you ‘theme’ your print is up to you. The Night Sky lets you add a caption that can be as simple as the name of your kid to a semi-coded message that means something to you, like ‘The night my heart skipped a beat’. I love the idea of tacking on ‘The night when…’ or ‘The night of…’ to really give it context, particularly if you’re actually highlighting an evening event, like “The Night We Said ‘I Do'”. You can even include a quote from a special night like your wedding or the exact location of where you were.

The Night Sky Dual

The process of creating one of these star prints takes all of five minutes, and makes a great gift for a ton of occasions, including your first-year wedding anniversary (to celebrate ‘Paper‘!) to a gift for a new niece or nephew to even a creative way to propose – if you’re optimistic, try crafting one that says ‘The night she said yes!’ There are endless things to celebrate and commemorate in this vast world my friends.

The Night Sky Desk

Pricing is $60 USD per print, with free shipping available to Canada. The Night Sky is actually just about to debut their Canadian site too, so you can start shopping even closer to home and in local currency. In the meantime score 10% off your order using the coupon code CGG10!

Want to commemorate a special night in your life? The Night Sky has generously offered to give away not one, but three customized prints. Want to win one? Here’s how to enter:

1) SUPER IMPORTANT NOTE! You must be a Canadian Gift Guide subscriber to enter this giveaway. Just find the ‘Gift of Gab’ box on the righthand side of this page and either hit ‘Follow’ or enter your email address. Once you’ve done that, leave me a comment by September 30, 2017 telling me what you’d commemorate with your The Night Sky print.

2) Entries are limited to one per person / per email address / per household (or more if you score bonus entries). A random draw will be conducted on or around October 1, 2017 to select the winner(s), who will have 48 hours to respond before another winner is chosen in their place.

3) Entries are limited to Canadians that have reached the age of majority in their province. Quebec is not eligible for this promotion.

4) Bonus Entry: Follow The Night Sky on Instagram. Then, tag at least two friends in a comment on your favourite post on their feed. Share a link to the post you commented on + your IG username in a separate comment below to earn an extra entry into the draw.
