Trend Watch: Velvet Empire
I first started noticing this trend last winter, but lately it’s been everywhere – and rendered in many different ways. I’m talking about velvet, which last had a major fashion moment in the 1990s. Today I’m seeing crushed velvet, felted velvet, and of course, regular, plush velvet. While I’m still dubious about velvet’s breathability as an everyday fabric, I have to admit that it’s a fun way to luxe up your wardrobe. Today I’m highlighting a bunch of velvet pieces that may also make great gift (or wish list) items!

Velvet Miniaudiere – $49 @ Town Shoes: You can’t go wrong pairing velvet with eveningwear; nab this timeless clutch in four classic hues like ruby red and sapphire blue.
Velvet Belt – $11.50 @ Ardene: Want to dip your toe in this trend? Opt for a simple accessory like a belt, to add a little femininity to your look.
Trina Turk Velveteen One-Piece Swimsuit – $224 @ Hudson’s Bay: This is one velvet trend that’s totally unexpected, but many swimwear brands launched velvet suits this past summer. Worried about getting it wet? Save it for poolside lounging then.
TOPMAN Velveteen Joggers – $65 @ Hudson’s Bay: Another big shift in the velvet trend is the fact some pieces are being released for men. This loungewear-style pant is a perfect way for him take advantage of this plush material without fretting about standing out on the street.
Velvet Choker – $4.90 @ Forever 21: Another 90s trend? Chokers. Pair ’em together with this super cheap-chic accessory.

Well, I think I am too old for velvet, but I do know a young lady who would love the Yucan short bomber jacket.

I’ve always loved velvet and would pick the velvet jacket.
I really like the velvet bomber jacket as well as the crushed velvet tees.
I do like the Black Velvet Fur Pom Hat for the younger set but not for me.
