Wined & Dynamic
I had a lot of fun writing last month’s 10 for $10 on wine lovers’ gift ideas. But of course, it was sad because I saw so many kickin’ ideas that were well over my tidy budget. So today I thought it’d be fun to round up five best gift ideas for wine lovers. While they’re all awesome for any ol’ time, they’re also key to keep in mind as we drift toward the holidays.
Glass Cluster Chandelier – From $389+ @ Generate
As you can imagine, this stunning, sparkling chandelier would wow any wine lover as it suspends over their kitchen island or oversized dining room table. But this is not a mere decor piece. What you’re ordering is the rods that will hang the wine glasses of your choice – meaning you basically get to design your own chandelier. Your wine glasses are actually meant to be used and then re-hung, making it also a pretty savvy storage piece alongside a striking conversation starter. There are three sizes of the chandelier available, starting with 16 glasses and working your way up to 76. A very cool housewarming or anniversary gift!
Le Mouton Noir & Co ‘A Date With Wine’ Wine Stopper – $52 @ Amazon.com
I really don’t blame you if, after enjoying a glass or two of wine, you don’t remember when you opened it after stopping it again with a cork. This hefty stainless steel wine stopper however, promises to end those woes of spoiled wine (particularly useful for chefs that only need a splash or two). After plugging up your wine bottle, simply adjust the wheel on top to set the month and day it was popped, and you’ll know exactly when you need to guzzle the rest down by.
‘Wine For Your Life’ Bottle Holder – $32 @ Amazon.ca
There are a lot of fun, slightly gimmicky wine holders out there – but this one is straight up cool. Designed to showcase a single bottle of wine, it works perfectly as a centerpiece at your next dinner party. Constructed from sturdy black metal, this sleek wine bottle holder features the silhouette of a man and a woman literally on the ‘wine’ from the soon-to-be-crushing bottle. Super cute pick as a hostess gift or for your close friends that love a good bottle of vino.
Sempli Cupa Vino Glasses – $65 for two @ Room 2046
Stems – who needs ’em? That’s the rationale behind these elegant, hand-blown, lead-free crystal glasses that not only look beautiful, but serve a purpose. When you set your glass down, it will rock and roll a little bit (no worries – the glasses are designed with gravity in mind and won’t tip over). This actually helps with the oxygenation process, which as any good would-be sommelier knows, is key to enjoying your drink. They come perfectly packaged in a little gift box, making this a sweet wedding gift choice. Also available in a frosty finish.
VinoVinti – $39.95
Every gift in this guide is in good taste – but this is the only wine lovers’ gift that will also make your wine taste better. Here’s the rub with wine: we love it, but sometimes its ‘acidic bite’ isn’t that pleasing to the senses. If you’ve ever shuddered at taking a first sip – even of good wine – you’ll know what I mean. Enter VinoVinti, an ingenious little device that is way faster than decanting when it comes to softening the tannins and making the entire bottle taste as it was meant to. I’ve given it a whirl – and really, all you do is insert the rod, seal it in with a vacuum stopper, and gently ‘pump’ until bubbles appear. 30 seconds later, VinoVinti has removed the carbonic acid (if necessary, you can give it another go-round). You no longer have to worry about refreshing the bottle glass-by-glass, and your entire bottle will have a crisp, refreshing taste without any of that potential bitterness. The base kit comes with everything you need, including a rod, holder, vacuum pump and stopper, but I’d recommend shelling out for an extra rod so you can do your reds and whites separately. Totally genius idea for the in-laws this holiday, or perhaps as a holiday gift or a present for your boss. Why give them one bottle of good wine when you can hand over a lifetime of good wine drinking?
VinoVinti is available online and does ship to Canada. They also have a retail presence in fine liquor stores in Ft. McMurray, Alberta, Armstrong, BC, and Pembroke, Ontario. Again, I think this is one of those fab ideas that is so simple and perfectly priced for gifting to a whole range of people. After all, the tagline is literally “makes wine taste better”. Sold. Stock up, share the wealth. Oh, and speaking of such things, perhaps I should share with you that I’m giving away a VinoVinti to one lucky winner. Wanna win it? Here’s how to enter:
