The Wet Look
What It Is: MAKE UP FOR EVER is always innovating your typical beauty products – and this time they’ve gone back to basics by infusing their face and body foundation with the purest of elements: water (granted, theirs is infused with pro-vitamin B5 to provide hydration). The result? An extremely fluid foundation that feels super lightweight as you apply it, while offering no-transfer, waterproof coverage. Available in 20 shades, it honestly feels like you’re applying water to your face – great if you’re looking for that lighter, dewier finish to your skin.
I got to try it out myself and here’s what I’d say – it takes some getting used to, but in all, I liked the product. The coverage is medium to light – I have pretty flawless skin to begin with, which means I’m actually a fan of foundations that don’t look like I’m wearing an (unnecessary!) mask. While I always think applying a foundation with your fingers is a good, tactile way to get a sense of the product’s formulation and coverage, I actually think this product performs best with a brush to really even things out. Now, if you apply it and aren’t super happy with the level of coverage, wait. I kept on applying the first time I used it and started to veer into mask territory. I found that as the product dried (which was fast, but perhaps not as fast as a traditional foundation) it also evened out and gave me more coverage. I’ve learned now to apply one coat with a brush, give it a minute to set, and then apply more anywhere that needs a little extra coverup. The result? Totally fresh-faced and even, with a slight satiny sheen!
Who It’s For: Your little sister, who needs to learn that foundation doesn’t mean slathering on product! Your best friend, to show off her glowing skin. Yourself, to hydrate that summer-parched skin well into the winter.
