Smartest Meal of the Day
What It Is: If you follow me on Instagram, then you’ll see that I regularly post some ‘bonus content’ related to this blog, oftentimes related to testing things out. I recently tried out Breville’s the Smart Waffle wafflemaker, and man oh man am I impressed. Here’s the thing. As a lot of you know, I eat a primarily plant-based (i.e. vegan) diet – although I haven’t totally shut out omnivore products from my life. While I certainly don’t miss meat (not even bacon), I do miss the way eggs give breakfast quickbreads like waffles a light, crispy taste. Most of my previous homemade waffle attempts were coming out heavy and cakey, to the point where I all but turned my back on my favourite breakfast food. Until now.
The Smart Waffle is so titled because it knows the exact cooking time your waffle needs based on the general type of recipe you’re using – so for example, when I made vegan buttermilk waffles by curdling my milk with fresh lemon juice, I used the buttermilk setting to get them to crisp up just right. And right they were. Honestly, I forgot how light and airy homemade waffles could be – they were cooked perfectly every time I used this wafflemaker. It’s super easy to use too – if you pop it open and see your waffles aren’t quite done, it’s got a ‘Bit More’ button to give it a little extra cook time. Not only that, it is SO. EASY. to clean – something my husband appreciates as that’s his share of our household kitchen duties. There’s a moat to catch any stray batter, but in general it cooks so cleanly we didn’t have any stuck-on batter to deal with.
Honestly, the thing I’m most impressed with Breville’s products is how logical they are. It’s like they’ve designed appliances that think the way humans think – every feature you could want from your wafflemaker is packed into this handy kitchen appliance. Love!
Who It’s For: The newlyweds, as a sweet wedding gift. Your son or daughter, as a great housewarming pick. The empty nesters, to indulge in yummy weekend brunches.
What It Costs: $299.99
Where It’s At: You can nab it at one of the dozens of retailers across Canada that carries Breville products.

Perfect for charity waffle breakfasts, my daughter used to lug the old heavy one
This is one time I am going to think of me. lol. Yes, I would buy this for myself. Of course, I would use it to cook lovely, fluffy waffles for my family
I love this waffle maker and if I gift it to my daughter, she will probably invite me over to enjoy waffles.
The Smart Waffle sounds fantastic and I may just keep it for myself. 🙂
too expensive for me
If it is quick and easy to prepare and to clean I would get one
I would so love this for myself as we have waffles a lot but the so called top of the line iron that I now have just doesn’t do the job it’s advertised to do.
I love the idea but don’t need another appliance that is not used regularly cluttering up my kitchen.
This is a great waffle maker. I would gift it to myself. Haha. I am a subscriber.
I would love this waffle maker – too expensive though!
This is a great gift idea for anyone, who doesn’t like waffles?! I would give this to my mom 🙂
I would give it to one of my children, but it is expensive for my budget.
I’ve never made waffles before but love them! Great appliance.
I”d give it to my niece for her wedding present.
Great looking waffle maker. I’d give it to the next person I know getting married.
I really want a waffle maker – this one looks amazing!
I love homemade waffles and I’m impressed by the features on this one! I would gift this to my son and his family.
I love light homemade waffles (similar to yours). This would be a great wedding or anniversary gift for older couples as they would not have spoilt themselves buying it before.
My wife would want this waffle maker!
I would give it to my sister and her husband…recent empty nesters.
Would give it to my best friend as a housewarming gift.
BONUS Sweetgrass Rain ENTRY: I’ll take waffles over pancakes any day & if this makes them perfect every time I’m sold! Can I gift it to myself 😉
My daughter could use one of these to make waffles for the grandkids.
Breville appliances are second to none, in my opinion. I’m not much of a waffle (or pancake fan) but my daughter is so she’d get a lot of use of of this machine.
Looks awesome. I would gift it to myself because I live for waffles!
I love breakfast foods! I would gift this to my husband so that he can make me breakfast!
I love this! I’d keep it!
Everyone loves waffles and theses newer ones are so much nicer to use with all the settings.
I would give this to my boyfriend so he can make me his famous waffles every Sunday.. 😉
I’d gift the waffle maker to my sister in law so she could make waffles for my nieces:)
There are two men in my family who would love to have the Breville Smart Waffle waffle maker. My husband, who loves fresh waffles but can’t seem to find a waffle maker that does them right, and my dad, who can use this up at the cottage for when the whole family comes up for the weekend!
I want to get this for my mom so she can make everyone healthy breakfast for my siblings.
I think my sister-in-law would like to to make fresh waffles and so would I!
This would be a great gift for my husband – he is our resident saturday morning waffle/pancake specialist!
I like waffle makers but I had one and did not use it as often as I thought and it took up a lot of space so I got rid of it. It was easy to clean and use so if you think someone you know would appreciate it, it is a nice gift.
Neat, I don’t eat waffles myself, but I have a sister who would love it.
