That’ll Be The Day: 2016 Advent Calendar Gift Guide

When I started writing about unique advent calendars on this blog, it was a lot more of a novelty than it is now. The wild popularity of advent calendars has (crazy?) people snapping up multiple ones each year, as more and more brands release their own take on this holiday tradition. I did a fair bit of research and this post realistically could have been upwards of 30 different advent calendars, some of which are tougher to get in Canada. I stuck mostly with advent calendars that were either off the beaten trail, super covetable, or easily available in Canada – but if you don’t see one that catches your eye, try checking out my past advent calendar gift guides. Many brands are still kicking with theirs, I simply didn’t have room to feature them all. Seriously, there’s an obscene number of choices for advent calendars these days. In the meantime, here’s some cool 2016 advent calendars that may help you get in the holiday spirit!

advent-calendars-2016

estee-lauder-advent-calendar

For the Luxury Babe: Estee Lauder Holiday Countdown Cosmetics Set – $310 @ Hudson’s BayOne of the spendiest advent calendars out there, but I mean, Estee Lauder is one of the premium luxury beauty brands out there. Plus you could actually reuse this cute calendar – open the little daily drawers to unveil beauty, skincare, and fragrance products.

short-story-advent-calendar

For the Bookworm: Short Story Advent Calendar – $55An advent calendar without the calories? Well, unless you count food for thought. Jam-packed with short stories from some of Canada’s top literary talent, this is one advent calendar you can feel good about digesting.

kinder-advent-calendar

For the Kid at Heart: Kinder Advent Calendar – $14.48 @ Well.caChocolate fans can get their Kinder fix with this scrumptious, affordable calendar. It’s a fun pick for kids and adults alike (although I don’t think it has any toys).

loccitane-advent-calendar-2016

For a Joyeux Noel: L’Occitane Advent Calendar – $59: I honestly think this is one of the best value advent calendars out there. You nab 24 good-sized products from French brand L’Occitane, including hand lotions, soaps and more, which could easily last you for half a year after opening them. Not to mention, it’s also one of the prettiest choices out there! Who wouldn’t want to open a sweet-smelling product daily?

look-fantastic

For the Ultimate Beauty Bonanza: LookFantastic Advent Calendar – $110The price may be steep, but this luxury beauty calendar is filled with sample and full-sized beauty products valued at nearly $500 CDN. It sells out quickly though, so nab it while you can!

allure-tackle-box

For the Flyest Fisherman: Fly Fishing Advent Calendar – $69 @ Allure Tackle Company: Most advent calendars seem geared toward women, children, or drinkers. But this sporty alternative is a must-have gift for the fisherman in your household, plus it’s made right here in Canada.

clinique-advent-calendar

For a Pint-Sized Treat: 10 Days of Clinique Advent Calendar – $51 @ Sephora: While many advent calendars follow the traditional model of 24 days of opening gifts, this one is just 10 short and sweet days of luxury-sized Clinique samples. It’s a great choice for the Clinique lover in your household!

playmobil-hockey-advent-calendar

For the Hockey Fan: Playmobil ‘Rivalry on the Pond’ NHL Advent Calendar – $31.99 @ Hudson’s BayPlaymobil and Lego both have a few advent calendars every year, suited to different themes. This one caught my eye for its NHL affiliation, making it a perfect treat for the budding hockey star in your household.

24-days-of-tea

For the Tea Aficionado: 24 Days of Tea – $40 @ DAVIDsTEA: So, this tea advent calendar basically sells out the same day it hits stores, without fail, every single year. I think it’s physically impossible for them to make enough of them. By the time you read this sentence, I’ll be it’s sold out. The good news? They’ve got a few other products that could still fit the bill. If you miss out on 24 Days of Tea, keep an eye out their 12 Teas of Christmas sets for a mini teafest in the lead up to Xmas, including one that can be strung up for your own DIY garland. Part decor, part tea house – too cute!

ciate-mini-mani

For the Nail Queen: Ciate Mini Mani Month – $70 @ SephoraShopping for a nail polish fiend? They’ll delight in giving themselves daily manicures with Ciate’s beloved manicure advent calendar. The small bottles are actually ideal if you’re worried about drying up – you can easily get quite a few manicures out of each bottle and be done it before the bottles themselves expire.

le-comptoir-chocolate-advent-calendar

For the Chocoholic: Le Comptoir Chocolat Advent CalendarIf you want to go traditional, skip the $1 waxy chocolate advent calendars you see at the drugstore and opt for something that’ll actually taste good daily. This sweet advent calendar is filled with an assortment of delectable chocolates from Quebec brand Le Comptoir Chocolat. Not only do they taste good, you can feel good about buying them – I was on the hunt for a fair trade chocolate advent calendar this year and was *so pleased* to see there was a Canadian brand doing it. As a heads up, it might not quite be on the site yet, so be patient and nab it when it does!

squish-candies-advent

For the Sweet Tooth: Squish 24 Days of Candy – $29Advent calendars are traditionally filled with sweet treats, but Canadian brand Squish’s calendar puts a twist on it with their modern gummies. Indulge in squishy brains, sweet yogurt cups, sharks and more.

body-shop-advent-calendars

For the Bathing Beauty: The Body Shop Ultimate Beauty Advent Calendar – $169For the record, The Body Shop actually has two different advent calendars this year. The one I featured above in red is the ultimate luxury edition, with a value of over $300 – but available for just over half that. There’s a smaller option available if you want to spend a little less, but still lather yourself in The Body Shop’s beloved bath and body care products.

    OMG!! I WANT!!

Pizza AND chocolate??? Can you really go wrong with this treat? I think not!

While all these advents calendars look amazing, the le comptoir chocolat is my fav. It just screaaaaams delicious, luxurious, and fun all in one! Nothing like counting down to Christmas in an amped up version of the way you used to as a kid.

  114. Shera Stroet says:

http://www.lecomptoirchocolat.com/en/the-black-chocolate-box.html, And as for the advent calendars, I usually love the David’s tea ones, except this year I found that most of the teas are the same as the last few years. So I’m here looking for new ideas, Squish 24 Days of Candy looks like fun, but so does the chocolate!

Oops! I forgot to also mention I really love the David’s Tea advent. It’s my favourite on this list! But this year I went with the Bonne Maman advent calendar for something different 😀
