Year of the Rooster: 12 Gifts for Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is always a fun post for me to write each year, because more and more brands are getting involved (inadvertently or deliberately) to ring it in. 2017 is the Year of the Rooster – I’ve picked out a few awesome gift ideas for those Roosters celebrating a birthday this year, or for someone you’re celebrating Chinese New Year with.

mac-chinese-new-year M.A.C. Chinese New Year Palette – $42
This one isn’t Rooster-specific, but it sure is pretty! Inspired by snow blossoms, this palette of nine eyeshadows mixes mattes and metallics for a truly covetable palette. It’s part of M.A.C.’s larger Year of the Rooster collection, FYI.

Kate Spade Imagination Rooster Coin Purse – $128 USD
This little change purse is tres adorable! With an intricate 3D leather rooster design, it’s the perfect place to stash those lucky coins for good fortune all year long.

McCormick Gourmet Sriracha Seasoning – ~$7 @ Grocery Stores
If you’ve ever dreamed of adding a dash of ‘rooster sauce’ to your favourite dish, the wait is over. McCormick actually has a spice blend that uses the same spicy red chilis to punch up any dish.

Estee Lauder Year of the Rooster Compact – $183
It’s just not Chinese New Year without a shout out to Estee Lauder’s infamous powder compact. It’s pricey sure, but these collectible powders are refillable!

GUESS Rooster Block Tee – $34 @ Hudson’s Bay
Even guys can get into the rooster spirit with this decidedly festive tee, feature a vintage rooster print, spangled golden bar, and Chinese characters.

Rooster’s Off to See the World by Eric Carle – $4.99 USD @
This is a cute idea for any kids born under the sign of the rooster. A classic Eric Carle book with a narrated CD makes for a colourful keepsake that encourages your inner traveler to come out.

rooster-pinRooster Pin – $12 @ Urban Outfitters
Want a subtle way to strut your rooster stuff? Add this simple little pin to the lapel of your jacket or onto your bag for a nod to your Chinese birth year.

Fox Run Rooster Cookie Cutter – $0.99 @ Amazon
You can create a veritable barnyard of cookie animals with Fox Run, but naturally the rooster is the real star this year. Bring this as a fun and affordable hostess gift for your Chinese New Year dinner.

Swatch Rocking Rooster Watch – $100
Swatch always outdoes themselves with cool designs for Chinese New Year. This timepiece is an extra nod to Chinese culture – it’s designed in the traditional paper cutwork style of local art. I love the case it comes in almost as much as the watch itself!

2017 Birth Year Box – $65 @ Uncommon Goods
This little gift is a gender neutral present for any little ones arriving under the sign of the rooster. Stash baby’s first shoes, lock of hair, baby teeth, you name it – it’s a keepsake for a lifetime.

Rooster Earrings – $45 (+ free shipping) @ Mana528
These earrings caught my eye for their brilliant feathers – which apparently have been naturally shed and refashioned into these long stunners. Perfect for well beyond Chinese New Year!

Salvatore Ferragamo Rooster Print Silk Tie – $261 @ Nordstrom
For the more dapper guy that wants to pay homage to the year of the rooster, invest in this silk tie with a subtle yet bright rooster print. Available in three chic colours.

What are your favourite Year of the Rooster gift ideas highlighted in this post? Are you doing anything special to celebrate Chinese New Year?
