A Little Something Extra

As many of you know, I’m getting married this summer. It was in my meanderings in wedding brainstorming that I came across today’s awesome shop, White Truffle, a rather prolific and somewhat enigmatic shop owned by designer J. Riley. This chic little shop is packed to the rafters with gift ideas to top off your outfit – from personalized cufflinks and tie bars to elegant jewelry and hairpieces, it’s the perfect place to find those little extras. While I certainly encourage a perusal through the White Truffle ladies’ items, today I’m going to quickly highlight some of the guy-friendly products that would work equally well for Father’s Day (order fast! Or give dad a gift card and pick something special together) or for your groomsmen if you’re getting married in the next year.

Initial Monogram Tie BarTie Bars ~$31.95
Whether the guy you’re shopping for dons a tie on a daily basis or only breaks it out for formal occasions, he’ll still appreciate the thought and simple elegance behind White Truffle’s line of handmade aluminum tie bars. Commemorate a special date – like your wedding or his birthday – or engrave his initials (or yours as a couple, if buying for a spouse) for a truly one-of-a-kind heirloom. Or go playful, and gift your groomsmen a cute design like a mustache or a compass.

Feather and Twig Boutonniere White Truffle

Feather & Twig Boutonnieres – $12.78 each
These days it’s increasingly chic to skip traditional flowers and go for alternative options for everything from your centrepieces to your bouquet. Let the guys get in on the act with these rustic & whimsical boutonnieres, which will look particularly romantic and elegant at a fall or winter celebration. Although not a traditional ‘gift’ per se, I kind of dig these because a more sentimental type could hang onto it after the fact, as a memory of your special day.

Custom Silver and Brass Money Clip White TruffleCustom Money Clips – $40 – $45
For all those too-hip-for-a-wallet dudes on your list, a money clip is a sleek and timeless way to keep your bills, cards, and essential ID in one compact place. Again, there are a gaggle of options here, but I’m personally drawn to the hard-meets-soft feel of this aluminum and brass custom photo clip, which allows you to insert a special photo. If you’re buying for dad, consider a childhood photo of the two of you. If you’re buying for your hubby, how about your latest family portrait? And make each groomsman feel extra special by ordering a custom clip each; featuring a photo of a particularly poignant time in your friendship.

White Truffle CufflinksCufflinks – $26 – $68
Now this is the true bread & butter of the White Truffle shop. As of writing this post there are over 740 listings for cufflinks on the shop, many of which involve some form of customization. Obviously as you can see above, a lot of the samples I picked work well as wedding gifts – although I mentioned groomsmen in my opening, you could just as easily (as the bride) handpick a few pieces to gift to your groom or your dad. Of course, they’ve also got lots of everyday options that work in tandem with your guy’s interests (from bands to sports to activities) or just to reflect his initials, birthday, or some other little special piece of his history.

White Truffle, for the record, offers pretty reasonable Canadian shipping. Most pieces ship for $4 a pop and come pre-wrapped for easy gift-giving. And as my gift to you, White Truffle and I are giving away a pair of cufflinks of your choice to one lucky winner. Here’s how to enter:

1) Leave a comment by June 18th with a link back to the pair of White Truffle cufflinks you’d pick if you were the winner.

2) Entries are limited to one per person / per email address / per household (or more if you score bonus entries). A random draw will be conducted on or around June 19th to select the winners, who will have 48 hours to respond before another winner is chosen in their place.

3) Entries are limited to Canadians that have reached the age of majority in their province. Quebec is not eligible to participate in this promotion.

There are a few things I love on men that are a rarity these days; a side part, elbow patches, and cufflinks. The cufflinks that I would love to give to my boyfriend would be these black and white map of the world cufflinks. He is a pilot who has been to every continent.
