Find of the Month: May Lindstrom

I actually came across May Lindstrom this past summer, and have thus had plenty of time to get acquainted with the brand (and it’s lovely and dedicated ‘name brand’ owner May) before sharing it with you. One of the themes of gift ideas I share in these frostiest of months is the idea of gift ideas to help you be a ‘Winter Warrior’ – protecting your skin, hair and soul from the gloom and doom of the season. Luckily, May’s collection does just that, and makes a perfect fit for January’s Find of the Month. I’ve highlighted her core products below to give you a taste of what she has to offer and why it’s totally worth the splurge.

May Lindstrom The Problem Solver
The Problem Solver – $90

I try and treat my skin to a soothing (and scrubbing) face mask at least once a week. It’s a foolproof way to keep those pesky dry skin flakes away while also buffing your skin to a radiant shine. Enter The Problem Solver, a very unique face mask formula that goes from powder to mousse once mixed with water. This tingly mask then provides a unique burning sensation as it goes deep into your pores to purify your skin. As you’ve probably guessed by now, May Lindstrom is all natural – so those hot pricks you feel on your face can actually be attributed to the likes of surprising ingredients like cayenne pepper, marshmallow root and turmeric. Be sure to invest in the brand’s signature clay pot and vegan-friendly brush for easy application.

May Lindstrom The Clean Dirt
The Clean Dirt – $60

So of course, applying a mask once a week is essential, long-term maintenance, but your skin also needs some daily TLC. The Clean Dirt is designed for daily use and much like The Problem Solver, it requires just a few drops of water to activate into a refreshing, tingling scrub. The idea is to slough off the daily grime and encourage cellular rejuvenation to reveal fresh, taut skin.  With soothing White Halloysite Clay and Red Moroccan Rhassoul Clay tempered by exotic ingredients like Red Alaea Sea Salt and Calendula Flower, the result is velvety soft skin, no matter what time of year. Have I mentioned the importance of the sleek opaque bottles? Not only do they stand out in a sea of white and clear, they also block out the sun’s rays to keep your products fresher, for longer.

May lindstrom The Youth Dew
The Youth Dew – $120

Nearly all of May Lindstrom’s products come back to The Youth Dew, an insanely potent moisturizer featuring 20 different regenerating plant and botanical oils that not only lock in moisture, but also helps slow the signs of aging thanks to CoEnzyme Q10. While it may come in a relatively small bottle, this stuff lasts and lasts and lasts – I’ve been using a bottle of it since the summer and feel like I still haven’t even gotten through half of it. You really only need a few drops to lather up, and it makes a great counterbalance to all of May Lindstrom’s more intense facial scrubs and masks.

May Lindstrom The Good Stuff
The Good Stuff – $110

Of course, you can’t forget about your body. It is just as deserving as your face in terms of needing to be protected from the oh so harsh elements. Simply lathering it on after stepping out of the shower or when you’re feeling a little wrung out. The soothing blend of cocoa, rose, lavender and ylang ylang will treat your skin like gold and actually helps get rid of any kind of gunky build-up from years of mistreatment, for radiant, sparkling skin – sans tan!

May Lindstrom The Honey Mud
The Honey Mud – $80

One of the two new additions in May Lindstrom’s skincare collection is The Honey Mud, a super gentle, pudding-like face wash that can be used daily to keep your skin gleaming. My favourite feature of this particular product is the fact it not only clears away the bad stuff that builds up on your skin overnight, it also gears it up for long-term protection and radiance, meaning it both erases your past while making you look amazing into the future. This multi-tasking product also functions equally well as a mask (and can be easily tucked away for travel).

May Lindstrom The Blue Cocoon
The Blue Cocoon – $160

The other new member of the May Lindstrom family is The Blue Cocoon, an intense, hydrating experience for those with even the most inflamed or sensitive of skin. The ‘blue’ in the name refers to the cooling sensation you’ll feel as you slather this on, as well as the mind-calming properties of the essential oils (such as Camellia, Yangu and Blue Tansy) contained within. The idea is to not only soothe irritated epidermis’, but to take care of your soul as well, making it a particularly potent pick for my whole winter warrior theme.

All of the products in this line are lovingly handmade to order by May Lindstrom herself, to ensure your items are as fresh as can be and carefully crafted. This artisanal approach alone makes May Lindstrom’s collection worth investing in – and after a few go-rounds with any of her products, I guarantee you’ll be a convert. In fact, I recommend The Complete Skin Experience as a luxe gift idea for yourself or your mom – it includes the brand’s four original products plus a mixing bowl and brush for just $410.
