Our Cheeks Are Nice and Rosy
Looking to get glam this holiday season? It’s time for my annual roundup of some of the most covetable beauty gift ideas out there! Check out some of my favourite beauty gifts below.
SEPHORA COLLECTION Color Around the World – $35 + Gift-a-Gloss Lip Gloss Sampler – $35
First off, a gift idea with extra gifting potential! Both of these items from SEPHORA COLLECTION can be kept for one lucky lass, or split into pieces for easy gifting. Admittedly the lip gloss set is quite specifically designed for that purpose – each little wing of the snowflake-shaped box can be broken apart and has a ‘to’ and ‘from’ line on it. With everything from clear and sparkly gloss to deep hues of plum, it’s a blockbuster collection! The Color Around the World set meanwhile, features four geographically-themed palettes, each with four eye colours and one cheek colour, plus a mirror and instructions to get that regional look du jour. Again, the set can be kept – or shared amongst your closest jetsetting friends.
Donald Robertson + Flare + Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Canadian Flare – $23 @ Sephora
This little lippie has a whole lot of thought behind it – and it actually celebrates Canada! Naturally it all starts with Smashbox’s amazing Be Legendary lipsticks, loaded with nourishing oils so your lips don’t dry out during the day, while the colour stays put. Second, the lipstick was specifically created in collaboration with Flare magazine – one of Canada’s most iconic fashion publications – and CFDA-nominated Instagrammer / artist Donald Robertson. The idea? To create a red tone inspired by the Canadian flag, which Robertson also incorporated into the design on the lipstick’s box. The result? A pure and pretty cherry red that is flattering on all sorts of skintones. Whether used as a stocking stuffer or gifted to a friend who favours bold lips, it’s a beautiful way to celebrate Canada.
Kett Cosmetics Personalized Palettes – $58 USD
If you’re unfamiliar with Kett Cosmetics, they’re one of the top innovators when it comes to airbrush makeup – for both pro and at-home use. Check out their site and you’ll see they actually have a pretty amazing lineup of airbrush blushes, shimmers, and of course, foundations to give you that flawless look. But this month, Kett has also just launched their new Personal Palettes using their signature Fixx product, which offers sheer to full coverage in a huge range of colours to match any skintone. The idea is to select three shades of your choice, perhaps a foundation paired with a highlight shade and a blush, or a full contouring kit with a foundation, highlight and contour shade. The results? Kardashian-esque flawless skin that brings out your best features. Kett Cosmetics is paraben-free, fragrance-free, silicone-free, and cruelty-free, plus their Fixx product is waterproof and non-oily, making it an ace pick for just about any girl. You can nab their products online or visit The Alchemy Center in Toronto.
NARS x Steven Klein Dead of Summer Eyeshadow Palette – $60
In another creative beauty industry collaboration, photographer Stephen Klein has partnered with luxury beauty brand NARS to create an incredible holiday season collection that is very much worth a spot on your wish list. The look? Dramatic, rich shades of burgundy, plum, and dusty rose. My personal favourite from the collection has to be the Dead of Summer Eyeshadow Palette, which includes four high-intensity shadows that can be used either wet or dry for more versatility, as well as a pint-sized Via Veneto Larger Than Life Eyeliner. It’s a fabulous set for traveling as you can easily create day and night looks with a few swipes, plus it fits perfectly in your purse. The colours also blend beautifully for any beauty maestros looking to up their smoky eye game for the season.
Too Faced Le Grand Palais – $72 @ Sephora
Every year Too Faced comes out with a really adorably themed lineup of products, and this year they’re channelling inspiration from the City of Light, Paris. Designed to look like an elegant hotel (or perhaps The Grand Budapest?), this sweet collection includes 18 beautiful eyeshadows, two blushes, a bronzer, and a highlighter. Plus it includes three deluxe-sized samples of their bestselling (and my new personal favourite) Better Than Sex mascara, Melted Lipstick and Shadow Insurance Eye Primer to keep those party-ready looks locked in all night long. The set looks stunning when set up on display on your makeup vanity, but it’s also relatively portable if you need to pack it up for a trip away this winter. You may also want to check out their Le Grand Chateau kit ($62), which includes three separate palettes that can be broken up and gifted individually or kept altogether for one sweet treat.
Fresh Nude Lip Lovers – $33 @ Sephora
Surely you’ve heard me rave about Fresh’s line of soothing sheer-tinted lip glosses? With their sweet taste of sugar-dusted lemon and their nurturing infusion of ingredients that keep your lips totally primed for snogging? Whether you’ve heard of the brand or not, they’ve packaged up their best selling lip treatment in tons of different ways this season – but this sweet trio of neutral-hued glosses totally caught my eye as a great entre to the brand. Travel-sized and packed in a pint-sized tin container, it’s a nearly universally flattering grouping of three soft shades of rose, warm nude, and a shimmery neutral. Makes for a perfect stocking stuffer too!
Anna Sui Holiday Collection – From $9
This season, Anna Sui has once again rolled out some adorable gift ideas with their Mystic Snow collection. With gorgeous gift sets and plenty of a la carte items to choose from, it’s oh-so-easy to add one or two or twenty whimsical beauty gift ideas from the brand to your wish list. But this season there’s also an extra incentive – if you spend $80 on Anna Sui Cosmetics at Hudson’s Bay, you’ll actually get to nab a gorgeous, limited edition tin box that’s perfect for stashing your beauty loot this holiday season. The tin actually comes with some Anna Sui products that you get to customize, for a total value of $104 additional to the $80 you’ll have spent on goodies. Some suggestions for how to spend that $80? Check out the Limited Edition Moisturizing Care Kit for your hands and nails ($22) or the Limited Edition Miniature Fragrance Gift Set ($58), which contains five beautiful miniature versions of the line’s signature dreamy scents.
Benefit Cosmetics Pret a Party Kit – $59 @ Sephora + Party Hoppin’ Kit – $47 @ BeautyBoutique.ca
Benefit has these really cute makeup tins this year that are completely gift-worthy – just pop a bow on top and you’re good to go. Inside each tin is a collection of four of their bestselling products, making it an ideal value buy for any Benefit fans or a perfect intro to the brand for those that haven’t experienced their awesomeness yet. The Pret a Party Kit is perfect for getting camera-ready, with a face primer, lip and cheek stain, concealer and mascara, while the Party Hoppin’ set has a fabulous highlighter, eye cream, brow gel and the same mascara (rightfully so, it truly is one of the best out there). I actually love these as a gift idea if say, you’re shopping for two sisters or two friends, as they can each get their beauty on with a slightly different kit and keep the tin after to stash their beauty goodies. Too cute!
Eyeshadow Palettes – $28 @ The Body Shop
Tis the season for limited edition sparkling eyeshadow palettes – and The Body Shop has delivered with two of the prettiest ones on the block. These cute quads are housed in a Gatsby-esque gold and black case that feels oh so festive. You can choose from two different colour families to suit your skintone and preferences – from a shimmery selection of silver / cool-toned hues to a warmer, glittering grouping of gold ones. The shadows can be used wet or dry, and the handy included cruelty-free makeup applicator and mirror makes it a snap to do touch-ups between dances at the holiday party. Like a few other ideas on this list, this is a super great idea if you’re shopping for siblings, friends or nieces and want to gift them something similar but tailored to their personal likes.
Kat Burki Products – From $31 @ Murale
I’ve noticed this year that Kat Burki is one of the brands that just seemed to be on everyone’s lips. Designed to fight ageing without harming the skin, Kat Burki products are infamous for their cold-pressed, cold-poured and cold-processed formulas. The idea? Heat has been known to sap the nutrients from our food – and since Kat Burki products use whole ingredients, the same logic was applied to the products, allowing them to preserve as much of their skin-soothing nutrients as possible. The brand just launched at Murale this past summer and is already winning over legions of fans. The brand covers all types of skin concerns and treatments so you can tailor your gift pick based on your giftee’s needs – from lip treatments and hand creams to intense eye cremes, peels, and serums.
Marc Jacobs The Sky Liner Petite Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Collection – $58 @ Sephora
One of my big beauty vices is always eyeliner, so this collection of seven petite-sized gel eyeliners from Marc Jacobs definitely caught my eye. Packaged in a cute little patent bag, these seven shades glide on like a dream and offer bold colour payoff and long-lasting staying power. From classic hues like black and espresso to unexpected (and in the case of two pencils, limited edition) shades like boysenberry and teal green, it’s an excellent choice for fans of the luxe brand. I should mention that if you click through that link, you may see some less glowing reviews for the collection – there was a recent product defect that was causing the crayons to be dried out, but it’s been remedied and you can now pickup this gorgeous, buttery smooth collection with no reservations.
Lise Watier Cosmetics – From $21
First things first! I have to definitely point you in the direction of Lise Watier’s incredible holiday collection called ‘Majestique‘, which features beautiful items with a hint of shimmer to give you that festive glow all season long. The company has also rolled out an awesome lineup of holiday gift sets that are incredibly covetable – and cover everything from lips to skincare to fragrance and more. But to highlight a few other fave products, you’ll definitely want to check out their Havana Bronzing Powder ($32) to get that “holidayed in the tropics” look after the holidays, as well as their Blush Fondant Supreme ($30) for a glow that evokes sitting by the fireside. Another holiday must-have are their Ombre Souffle Supreme shadows ($25), which come in a range of colours and can be easily applied with your fingertips for a soft shimmery look. And don’t forget about spritzing on some Neiges, which Lise Watier has sweetly named Montreal’s iconic fragrance. Buy one of the sets or mix and match products – you can’t go wrong with this awesome brand!
philosophy Layering Sets – $59 each @ Hudson’s Bay
While philosophy is often associated with their amazing 3-in-1 products, they’re also leaders when it comes to crafting delicate yet dreamy fragrances. This year they’ve packaged up their fragrances in beautiful gift sets that allow you to layer on your fave scents for stay-all-day appeal, including a spray fragrance, 3-in-1 shampoo / bubble bath / body wash, and a whipped body creme. The result is being wrapped up in a beautiful aroma, from the pristine freshness of Pure Grace to the classic florals of Amazing Grace to the energizing yet feminine Loveswept. Like other gift ideas I’ve mentioned, this one is great if you’re buying ‘identical’ gifts for people in your life but want to tailor them a bit; just pick the right scent for the right girl and you’re set!
MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Plexi-Gloss Collection – $182 + Artist Plexi-Gloss Kit – $52 (At Sephora + MAKEUPFOREVER.ca)
These collections basically feel like the be all and end all when it comes to lip gift sets. I wrote about MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Plexi-Gloss earlier this year, and explained how creator Dany Sanz was inspired by the high sheen of a plastic makeup case and wanted to recreate it in gloss form. Now there are two amazing value gift sets loaded with the product: The full meal deal collection, containing 12 different glosses in pearly and opaque shades, and the purse-friendly kit, which includes four universally flattering shades in a handy kit. The former is ideal if your wife, girlfriend, daughter, etc. is simply obsessed with this must-have product, while the latter is a great choice for your best friend or sibling that deserves a little high lip shine this season.
HealthSnap.ca Beauty Accessories Bundles – $40 each
Your beauty routine isn’t complete without the right tools and accessories to help you along. HealthSnap.ca is an amazing Toronto-based online store that stocks thousands of amazing health and beauty items across a broad range of categories – from hand creams to detoxifying tea to their handy bundles loaded with all the tools you need. Each beauty accessory bundle is tailored to a specific need; for example, if you’re all about your eyes, check out the Lash & Brow Bundle which includes a sharp pair of tweezers, a magnifying tweezing mirror, and eyelash curlers to give you that doe-eyed look. They’ve also got great sets for manicure and pedicure mavens! I love this gift idea because it doesn’t require any knowledge of someone’s beauty routine or ideal colours – everyone needs these tools in their arsenal and HealthSnap.ca has made them easy to nab.
Best in Glow Tata’s Best Sellers Collection – $185 USD @ Tata Harper
I’ve written about Tata Harper in the past, but it was well time I included them in my best beauty gifts roundup too! This all-natural skincare brand has seriously picked up steam since I last featured them in 2013 and has emerged as a leader in the field. This divine collection contains travel-friendly containers of all of their bestselling products, for a full face ritual you’ll love to indulge in. It’s the ultimate sumptuous gift for ladies who love to lavish their skin!
treStiQue Mini Trios – $32 USD
Crayons aren’t just for little ones anymore! Innovative beauty brand treStiQue has adopted the crayon shape for some of their bestselling products, including their Lip Crayons and Eye Crayons. Available in a range of flattering hues, these cool crayons offer more than meets the eye. With the shadows, on one end you’ve got the shadow itself, and on the other a handy smudge brush ($26) – and it all seals together with a magnetic cap that ensures no purse mishaps. Meanwhile, the lip crayons have a richly pigmented colour on one end, and the other features a matching BB balm that can be used underneath the lipstick for a moisturizing treat, or on top of your lips for a kiss of high shine. Curious about the brand? Check out their Mini Trios, which allow you to mix and match your choice of shadow and lip crayons for a perfect beauty trifecta – all at a fabulous price!
