Across the Universe
As I’ve alluded to many times this month, the new year often brings about resolutions to do better, do more, do something different than the previous year. If your goals for 2016 include a fitness regime, then understand that one of the best things you can do to motivate yourself to show up is to make sure you love the gear you’re working out in. If your ratty old gym clothes have seen better days, or if you want to implement a ‘reward’ system for hitting certain milestones, then you’ll definitely want to learn about today’s featured brand.
RYU – an acronym for Respect Your Universe – is a new Canadian fitness wear brand out of Vancouver. Their aim is to create active wear designed with a multi-disciplined athlete in mind; products that perform just as good as they look, with sleek clean lines, cutting edge innovation and helpful benefits while you’re getting your sweat on. With a newly opened flagship store in Vancouver and a fabulous online site, it’s a perfect destination for anyone with fitness goals or for those that already live an active lifestyle and want to try another new brand. Today I’m going to show you a few of my fave products and highlight why the brand rocks!
TecLayr Bra Top – $57 each
Here’s a great example of RYU’s innovation at work – these fitted tops double as a sports bra or a fitness top. Designed to support your bod with padding and inner bra support, this awesome top also has an internal mesh insert to help ventilate and a hidden pocket to stash say, your gym fob or a key. It’s also got a super smooth all over look, which is a big part of RYU’s design aesthetic – no unnecessary bunching at the hem or digging into the armpit. Meet your new fave workout top!
TecLayr Everywear Urban Jogger – $120
When I first laid eyes on these pants I was like, ‘Huh. It looks almost inspired by men’s trousers.’ And indeed, these super versatile men’s workout pants are designed for more than just hitting the track (or the pavement). Made in Canada, these sweat-wicking pants have a flattering, pant-like cut that makes them ultra comfortable to wear at the gym…but that superb fit also translates into wearing them while lounging around the house or even going out with friends (if you dress them up right). Just another reason to justify that purchase!
TecLayr 2n1 Training Short – $60
These shorts are pretty much my workout dream. If you’re like me and you don’t love the look of something super fitted but you also don’t like the potential for overexposure with a loose short, these 2n1 shorts are a godsend! The wide waistband keeps these shorts from riding up, while the dual layer allows you to feel totally comfortable and fierce when hitting the treadmill. The list of features on these shorts is actually crazy, with awesome little details like a loop so you can hang them up when having a shower. I’d also like to point out that apart from offering their products in a range of hues (these shorts also come in bright blue and hot pink), RYU also offers an extended range of sizes, from XS to XXL. There’s no discriminating for those who want to get fit!
Quick Pack Lux – $157
RYU has a neat section of their site that divides their products into ‘collections’ for different types of athletes and different parts of your day. A couple of them are still pending as the brand rolls out more new awesome products, but one covers the ‘to and from’ of your day, whether to the gym, work, or anywhere in between. It includes RYU’s cool lineup of bags, like the one you see above, which is perfectly suited for your workout bag but also makes a great carry-on, weekend bag, or backpack for students. Designed to be ridiculously lightweight, this amazing bag zips all the way down the front to function as a ‘locker’, is water and scuff resistant, and even has a padded laptop pocket for all you business types.
OutrLayr Insulated Henley Jacket – $173
As you may have noted in this post, RYU is very much all about layering. Which makes sense – as a Canadian brand, they get that for LARGE portions of the year, we have to bundle up if we want to work out in the great outdoors. The good news is, their products are designed for easy layering, but are also engineered to feel super lightweight so you don’t have visions of the Stay-Puft Man whilst jogging. Case in point? This cuddly jacket that wears like a sweater but warms like a coat. Insulated for your comfort, it’s great to throw on when warming up, or for jaunts to and from the gym. That high collar also keeps the wind out if you’re going for an outdoor run, so you can skip an extra scarf layer.
I really can’t say enough good things about this new brand. From the fact they’re Canadian (and make some of their products here) to their affordable pricing to their high tech, innovative design features, there’s really nothing more I could ask for from a fitness brand!
